Registrar Vascular Surgery

We are looking to appoint a candidate to a middle-grade post in Vascular Surgery. The successful applicant will have responsibilities at the hub and will be part of a collaborative team with excellent working relationships within the Vascular Surgery department.

Main duties of the job

Join our dynamic Vascular Team! The department includes six Consultants, four ACPs, three Specialty Doctors (including this role), an Associate Specialist, and two FY1s. We perform Level 2 emergency and elective vascular procedures and run daytime emergency shifts, which the post-holder will join. The role offers 11–12 PAs, with details finalized at the interview.

Main duties of the job

Specialty Doctors work as part of a supportive team with opportunities to pursue FRCS exit exams in Vascular Surgery. Responsibilities include theater, clinics, ward cover, emergency shifts, teaching, audits, and Clinical Governance. The post-holder will primarily work with one surgeon but must be available for cross-cover during the day.

Job responsibilities

Meeting the Health care needs of the local population, applications are invited for a post of Trust Specialty Doctor in Vascular Surgery .

Applicants are invited for a replacement post that is fixed term for 12 months initially, with a view to extending (after review at the end of 12 months). The posts will commence as soon as possible, providing excellent handson experience in Vascular Surgery.

Applications are invited from an experienced MRCS or equivalent post holder, with a minimum of 3 years medical work, post registration. At least six months experience in Vascular Surgery would be desirable. Applicant should an understanding to treat critically ill patients in a surgical practice, should be highly motivated and have leadership qualities.

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • MB ChB
  • MRCS or equivalent

Desirable

  • FRCS or equivalent.

Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years medical work post registration
  • An understanding to treat critically ill patients in surgical practice.

Clinical Governance

Essential

  • An understanding of clinical governance and clinical effectiveness
  • Willingness to work as a member of the teams and to share administrative responsibility
  • Compliance with appraisal, job planning and revalidation

Desirable

  • Familiarity with issues of service organisation and development.
