Exciting Senior Emergency Medicine Posts (ST4+ Equivalent)

These roles are ideal for doctors with at least 12 months of Emergency Medicine experience. Post-holders will work on the Middle Grade rota, including senior tier shifts. 

The flexible, self-rostered rota offers excellent work-life balance and allows movement between senior and junior tiers as experience grows. 

Main duties of the job

The Emergency Department sees approximately 180,000 patients annually, with 27% under 16 years old.

Key features include:

  • Facilities: 4 streaming rooms, a dedicated ambulance assessment area, a 6-bay resuscitation unit, 18-bay majors area, urgent care centre, and a paediatric ED with a separate waiting area.
  • Location: Close proximity to Acute Medical and Assessment Units, with a 24/7 emergency radiography department and dedicated CT scanner supported by consultant radiologists.
  • Services: Full emergency lab facilities, including point-of-care testing
  • Philosophy: Comprehensive patient care, with initial management in the ED before handover to inpatient teams.

The department has recently undergone a redesign to further optimise patient care delivery.

Job responsibilities

The Specialty Registrar/Doctor will:

  • Provide and maintain a high standard of care for all patients in the Emergency Department
  • Communicate effectively with medical and nursing staff of other disciplines, ancillary workers and paramedics in the interest of achieving efficient management of patients
  • Provide intermediate level supervision for the ACCS, GPVTS, FY2 and Trust SHO
  • Participate in audit activity meetings
  • Facilitate education of his/her juniors, including the nursing staff of the department
  • Assist the ED consultants in promoting health care to the departments patients in a friendly and caring
  • Lead resuscitation and trauma calls
  • Middle grade doctors are at the centre of service provision and supervision in the department. They work closely with the specialities in the hospital to ensure best care for the patients. The Trust is fully committed to national targets of care including patient flow through the ED department.

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Extensive post registration experience
  • 12 months experience in EM

Desirable

  • MRCEM, FRCEM primary, intermediate SAQ
  • Previous NHS experience
  • ATLS, APLS

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of teaching juniors medical staff
  • Able to train and supervise junior medical staff andmedical students

Desirable

  • Previous acute specialty experience
  • Experience of teaching multi-professional colleagues
