Leaving a job is always difficult, but at PE Global we want to make the process as smooth as possible when it comes to doing so. To help we’ve created a resignation letter template for you to use, no matter what type of job you’re leaving.
Whether you need a 1 months notice letter or something unique, our resignation letter template will get you started. In this blog, we go through what you need and then present you with a template so you can tailor a resignation letter to your own needs.
Leave peacefully and down the road, you may be thankful that you did.
What do you need in a resignation letter?
When it comes to leaving your employer, there are a few things that you need to make sure are included within the letter. Your name, date of submission, position you’re leaving and the name of the appropriate person that you are addressing – normally a line manager, supervisor, or someone from HR.
It’s also important to clearly state the day that your resignation comes into effect so that there is a clear understanding of your final working day. This date must also coincide with your notice period, so make sure that you check your contract or ask for confirmation of how much notice you need to give when leaving your position.
What you must never forget in a resignation letter
With all the formalities out of the way, when it comes to what you must include on a resignation letter there is one aspect that you simply can’t forget. And that is to be diplomatic.
No matter what your reasons are for leaving your job, you must always be diplomatic and polite with your departure. You don’t know what the future holds, so don’t burn your bridges, perhaps you’ll return to the same company, or an opportunity at a different business may come up where someone at the company you’re leaving has moved to. While we have all seen the dramatic ‘I quit’ moments in TV shows and movies – in reality, it doesn’t help you at all.
So, no matter what the situation is, make sure you write a polite letter. You don’t have to speak in glowing terms of the business if you don’t want to, but make sure you don’t cross the line. Leave peacefully and down the road, you may be thankful that you did.
