Intellectual Disability Nurse

PE Global Healthcare are now recruiting Intellectual Disability Nurses on behalf of their client based in Cork. Our client strives to support people with intellectual disabilities to lead full lives within their local communities as equal and valued citizens. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The proper organisation, adequate supervision and running of the area to which assigned
• Promoting a home like atmosphere for all people supported in a manner which will develop each individual’s ability to integrate in community life.
• Fostering, encouraging and developing each resident’s self care skills, particularly in relation to personal hygiene, health matters and personal appearance.
• Encourage each supported person’s participation in the day to day running of the group home / service are and to manage prudently his/her personal monies.
• Fostering, encouraging, developing and assisting with participation, where appropriate, at a social level, e.g. in local sports, recreational  activities and leisure pursuits
• Fostering, encouraging and developing the social skills of each person supported to partake in activities in the community
• Ensuring that Health Care Management plans are developed and maintained as appropriate.

Essential Criteria for the Intellectual Disability Nurses                     

• Applicants must be on the current register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland
• Have a clear understanding of HIQA guidelines and the policies that govern it
• Full Clean Manual Drivers Licence
• Possess a good knowledge of Intellectual Disability
• Excellent IT, administration, report writing and organisational skills
• Demonstrate initiative, good interpersonal and teamwork skills

Desirable

• Experience in working in the Intellectual Disability Sector
• Registered Intellectual Disability Nurse
