Geriatric Medicine Consultant

Job summary

The position is based at a prestigious hospital, where the post holder will assist in developing our innovative Department of Medicine for Older People, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient services. The appointee will work closely with the clinical director to enhance our clinical services, contributing to acute and general medical care, discharge planning, and the provision of outpatient clinics. 

Main duties of the job

• Provide senior clinical decision-making on a geriatric ward for patients awaiting discharge or transfer, including consultant-led ward and board rounds.
• Support specialist outpatient services as agreed.
• Participate in the out-of-hours General Internal Medicine Consultant Rota.
• Ensure clinical practice is effective and efficient, with active participation in audits.
• Engage in teaching, examination, and accreditation duties for undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education.
• Lead transformational projects, guiding teams through evolving pathways.

The post holders will be supported and responsible for supervision of junior/middle grade medical staff. The successful post holder will be supported to undertake formal training in educational supervision.
