Overview

We are seeking a Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear Specialist to join the Technical Services Division, which provides specialized engineering services to support the safe and reliable operation of electrical power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution networks. This role specializes in switchgear and control gear and involves offering technical support for designs, standards, commissioning, maintenance, operations, and investigations to ensure safe and reliable power supply.

Responsibilities

• Act as the Subject Matter Expert in equipment failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis on all critical equipment failures.
• Continuously review HV equipment maintenance programs to identify improvements for the safe and reliable operation of HV assets.
• Provide technical consultation to maintenance teams in identifying and reviewing critical spare parts lists for existing equipment.
• Assess the condition of aging switchgears and breakers and provide technical recommendations.
• Offer technical expertise in troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating if the equipment is designed for its intended or current service conditions.
• Provide engineering input on repair details and onsite technical support for critical equipment.
• Ensure all work packages related to switchgear follow established standards and material specifications.
• Represent the organization in industry and professional organizations or users’ groups that govern electrical codes and standards.
• Review and update company standards, and maintain familiarity with international standards.
• Possess strong skills in technical training, public speaking, writing, and customer service.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and contribute effectively in a team environment.

Minimum Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized program. An advanced degree (MSc) and Professional Engineer certification, such as chartership or PE, is preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of operations and maintenance experience working directly with MV switchgear/control gear.
• In-depth knowledge and recognition as a switchgear specialist, including membership in international engineering bodies and contributions at international conferences.
• Working knowledge of ANSI and IEC standards for switchgear, breaker design (vacuum, air, compressed air, SF-6), motor control gears, motor contactors, and pad-mounted SF-6 equipment.
• Strong ability to multitask, manage changing priorities, and proactively seek opportunities to improve results and processes, while contributing to safety and company goals.
• Quick assimilation and application of newly acquired technical information.
