PE Global Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Energy Market and Pricing Analyst to join our client, a Semi-State Power Generation Entity based in Kildare.

The successful candidate will be responsible for to lead the client’s power price forecasting modelling, and to analyse market changes to influence trading strategies, support effective asset operations and investment decisions.

The Role:

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Develop and maintain detailed electricity market pricing models in Plexos for both the ISEM and GB to support effective asset operations, investment decisions and appraise regulatory consultations. Produce regular price forecasts to be used across the client’s Renewable Energy business unit, from Operations to long term investment decisions;
  • Complete market analysis for the Trading team including analysis of current and future market conditions, market drivers, competitor analysis and understanding of key influences on energy prices for the business. Highlighting risks and opportunities for the business;
  • Forecast the Trading requirements for changes in Operation (e.g. transition to HVO/Gas and System Services daily auctions), supporting the transition by working closely with the prompt traders. Supervise the reporting of System Service performance reporting;
  • Assess and analyse commercial agreements (including PPAs, CPPAs, Eco Energy Park, Hydrogen, Gas) to ensure the smooth transition from project delivery to operation, and delivery of obligations, as the client delivers a pipeline of onshore wind and solar, offshore wind, hydrogen and biomethane projects amongst others;
  • Develop market analysis for the business including analysis of current/future market conditions, market drivers, competitor analysis and understanding of key influences on energy prices for the business. Highlighting risks and opportunities for the business;
  • Work closely with other team members to gain insights and gather requirements as is appropriate to deliver solutions. Ensure a team approach to understanding data content and requirements, and delivering end to end solutions, is maintained;
  • Analyse and report on trends and key performance indicators as required by management. Support the wider Renewables team in reporting and implementing efficiencies in reporting. Engage with external support providers as required enhance the performance and deliverables of the Trading team;
  • Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives;

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes;

  • Honours Degree (NFQ 8, 2.1 min), in a relevant subject i.e. Statistical/Numerical background,Data Analytics, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering or similar;
  • 3-5 years experience in Power Price forecasting, Power Market Analytics, Power Trading, or Back Office support;
  • Plexos modelling tool with expert excel skills is essential;
  • Knowledge of ISEM and the analysis of market drivers is essential;
  • Energy market or power system modelling experience is essential;
  • Strong analytical thinker with excellent statistical and quantitative skills required;
  • Demonstrable experience of data modelling, managing large data sets and analysing large volumes of data and making statistical inferences required;
  • Competency across a broad range of IT packages required, including Advanced MS Excel skills (macros, pivot tables etc), SQL, Python, AWS;
  • Strong communication, reporting and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • A self-starter who can work on their own initiative;
